▶ Topic : The most effective way for a country to progress is to improve its schools.
▶ Your Answer :
According to the United Nations, development of a country is determined by economic criteria and human development index. If we define “progress” of a country in terms of economic and human development, I strongly agree with an idea that improving schools is indeed the most effective way for a country to progress. This is because schools foster economic growth and generate viable human resources.
To begin with, improving schools is an effective way for a country to progress because it leads to a stronger economy. Specifically, schools and colleges contribute to the technology advance to a great extent. Often times school is not only a hub of education and learning, but also a research institution. Particularly, big research schools have professors and graduate students that receive funding from their school and conduct in-depth research in the field of science and engineering, and technology that are invented and patented from their labs are often bought by domestic technology companies to be commercialized. This means that when such a highly valued technology is sold to the other country or successfully applied to a product, country can reap vast economic benefit.
On top of that, improving school goes hand in hand with having well-educated human resources that will contribute to the society. Citizens that acquire knowledges and attain perspectives on life through education from school will later become an important member of a society such as politician, lawyer, doctor etc. and will be the driving force for a country to thrive. For instances, a recent census from the United States indicates that students graduated from well-funded highschool are twice more likely to be politicians, healthcare professional, lawyers and professors compared to the students from less-funded high school. This indicates that quality education significantly helps people to be important members of a society.
In essence, I believe schools should be funded and improved for the progress of a country because schools brings about a more robust economy and well-educated citizens that are significant parts of a society.
