Some people might think that the elderly need to exercise more than young people do. However, in my opinion, the long-time exercise by older people is not only ineffective but also dangerous. There are two reasons for having this idea.
To begin with, maintaining good physical condition in spite of growing old is usually affected by the exercise people did when they were young. This is because taking exercise steadily in youth forms exercise habit and makes people stay healthy. Therefore, it is important to start exercising when people were young. For example, my mother has been swimming since she was young and it made her do exercise every day. Now, she is very healthy. I believe that her physical health is due to her constant exercise. On top of that, old people’s exercise can be risky. This is because if he or she is not a person who has been exercising steadily, they have a small muscle mass and don’t know how to exercise safely. Without enough muscle and the proper way to exercise, over-exercise can make them hurt, such as muscle rupture or bone damage. Moreover, old people have a very slow recovering pace, so one huge injury can give them a long period of resting phase. It makes things worse because they cannot do any physical activity. For them, safety have has to take precedence over exercise. To sum up, exercising heavily by old people is less effective and hazardous. In this regard, I think it’s better to exercise harder when people are young to keep their body healthy. Exercise in youth can give people both physical health and how to exercise in secure. |
