Some people might
say that it would be better to use television for teaching people. However, in
my opinion, a main goal of television is entertainment, and regarding it as an instructor
is not a good choice.
To begin with,
television cannot be an effective educational media. Some people might think that
it would be very effective, because people use television a lot. (Use what purpose?) However, it is
quite a wrong idea because television loses attraction when it gives up for being
fun. (Awkward sentence) This is supported by a study conducted from psychology research team in Harvard
University. According to the study, a group in which people used television
only for educational purpose learning show less access to it (Why did you comment "less access to it"?) than the other group. It means that television
cannot successfully attract people only with educational purpose.
On top of that, watching
entertainment programs by television helps people to make friends easily. When people
watch entertainment programs, they are not usually alone. (Why's that?) Also, thanks to such
programs, people can have more chance to make new friends talking about the
programs. For example, last summer, I visited US for summer session in UC
Irvine. At first, it was very hard for me to make friends because every people are
foreigner, and there is not much of common issues to talk about each other with them. So, I just
tried to watch television programs in US, and it gave me a lot of contents to
talk with others so that I could make many new friends in foreign country.
To sum up,
television can not be a good teacher, and people might find various contents to
talk with others from entertainment program. In this regard, in my point of view,
it would be better to use television for entertaining rather than education.
