▶ Your Answer : It is often said that as today's parents are likely to join the work force, they cannot keep their children from distraction, such as television, movies and so on. However, I firmly believe that it is not impossible for parents to control their child because there is a way to attenuate the problem and it is less serious than we think. To begin with, parents are able to restrain their children from being influenced by outside impacts. This is attributed to the fact that as the saying goes, 'out of sight, out of mind.' This indicate that if it were not for TV or other distractions, children will not think about it and be gradually less dependent on it. According to the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2006, there was a huge difference between two groups of children in the degree of dependence of TV. Children who had no TV was classified as group A and those who had TV in their house was classified as group B. The researchers showed that the level of reliance on TV was much higher in those in group B. They tried to keep watching TV all day long even when they were seriously tired. This implies that based on the fact, parents can control the effect of badly-affecting source, getting rid of it's existence. In addition, contrary to common idea, the level of impact of TV and other divertions is not more serious than we expect. This is due to the fact that their harmful impact are pretty much exaggerated by parents themselves. By doing so, they want to control their children's dependence of such TV or others. According to a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2001, the effect of movies and drama is overstated actually. Based on the report, more than 80 percent of children who spent over 3 hours a day could concentrate on their study after watching TV. While studying, most of them did not think about contents of them. This means that parents can control such outer influences sinse it is not that much detrimental to children. In brief, as I described above, parents can supervise a harmful influence by removing the source of influence because they overestimate its impacts by themselves. |
