Question:
Do
you agree or disagree with the following statement?
With the help of the Internet,
students can learn more effectively.
Use specific reasons and examples
to support your answer.
Answer:
Some people think that they can
learn more effectively with the Internet than by themselves. However, in my
opinion, in terms of efficiency, students do not benefit much from the ‘help’
of the Internet for several reasons.
To begin with, they ultimately
learn less from the online learning resources. Instead, they get only
fragmentary knowledge because they tend to find only what is directly related
to what they want to know. On the other hand, without computer, while they research
the topics by themselves, they can obtain not only the things they want to know
but also the broader range of facts that help them comprehensively understand
the topics. From my experience, I studied the art works of Vincent van Gogh
with the Internet. However, I could not understand what they mean because I did
not come up with finding the background of his works. On the contrary, when I
went to the exhibition of his works in Seoul, I could learn what influenced him
to draw them and the value of the style of his arts. Moreover, I could get interests
in fine arts, which after made me learn arts with more fun.
On top of that, the Internet
distracts students from concentrating on their works. After they turn on the
computer, they are easy to surf the Internet or play online games. Then they
would use up the time for studying and finish late the task they must complete.
Furthermore, glaring computer screen could significantly distract them and
deplete the energy to think of anything original. For example, I was supposed
to listen to online chemistry lecture and opened the website. However, I
searched for recent news for many minutes. After I started to listen to the
lecture, I got a headache because computer screen was so bright that my eyes
were naturally focused on it. Finally, I turned off the computer before the
lecture was ended and delayed the task.
To sum up, I think students cannot
learn effectively with the Internet because it does not give much knowledge and
bothers to concentrate on their studies. It would be much more reasonable to study
by themselves and keep distance from computers.
