▶ Your Answer : Some people presume that reading the same books two times is more interesting than reading it only once. However, I firmly believe that it is not interesting and also a waste of time and energy because we already know storyline and end up skimming. To begin with, reading the same book again enables people to feel it boring. This is attributed to the fact that when people read a book for the second time, they already know what the story goes on and what the ending is like. Such previous knowledge only help decrease the level of expectation of readers, resulting in feeling it boring. For example, when I was in fifth grade, my father gave me a book called 'a little prince.' The story of book is about a boy who is from another planet and it was a fairly exciting book. However, my teacher required us to read the book, assigning us to hand out a description of our impressions. It was hard time to read the book again because I already know all the storyline and the sad ending. Then, I felt it was tedious even if reading it for the first time was exciting and interesting. This implies that reading the same book again is not intersting on account of having no expectation resulting from knowing the storyline. In addition, reading a book two time makes people skim, not concentrating on story. This is due to the fact that as I explained above, knowing a storyline in advance, people are unlikely to read thoroughly. In case of this, they tend to skim and read at a rapid pace. Such a way of reading is not related to one that makes them interesting. According to the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2009, there was a huge difference between two groups of children in the level of satisfaction when they were reading. Children in group A were allowed to read a book once and those in group B were required to read the same book twice. The researchers showed that the former group felt the book was more interesting than the latter group because those in group A were reading and concentrating on book because they did know what it is going on later. This implies that skiming the same book again without concentration let people feel reading it again boring and exhausting. In brief, reading a book for the first time is much entertaining because readers can easily focus on the contents of the books, not feeling boring. |
