Some people argue that there is no point learning about the past since we are living in the present. Nonetheless, others highly doubt that human beings would not have achieved the great civilization that they enjoy now without learning about the past. Aside from this, studying the past helps people obtain historical and biological information.
To begin with, the past is as significant as the present in terms of historical value it holds. To be specific, people can learn about their roots by studying history. It tells people who their ancestors were, where they came from and how they came to be inhabiting in places that they do now. History thus helps people have a better understanding of who we are and how we came into existence. Furthermore, historical information help people learn from mistakes. To elaborate on this, mankind has gone through atrocious wars such as World war two leaving millions of casualties. As a result, people have learned that further wars should be prevented and thus founded organizations such as United Nations to work as a watchdog.
On top of that, studying history is significant because it helps people gain biological information. To be specific, archaeologists dig deep into earth to obtain fossils in order to have a better understanding of evolutionary processes of different species. By knowing about the ancestral background of certain species, archaeologists can make a valid prediction of what these species will evolve into in the future. Fossils are also informative in a way that they show information about species such as dinosaurs that had become extinct.
In conclusion, some people do not take history seriously because they are dwelling in the present. However, knowing the importance and information history holds, people should never undermine the significance of learning about the past.
