▶ Your Answer :It is true that the environment that we live in has been developing at an accelerated pace, making our lives so much more convenient than it was in the past. The invention of automobiles and the highly developed public transportation system grant people greater mobility and cutting edge electronics keep people from being bored. Nonetheless, people should not overlook the several notable side effects high technology causes.
To begin with, as the living standards of people improve, owning an automobile has become one of the necessities. Furthermore, thanks to the convenience of the public transit, people can easily get to their destinations. However, there are far too many vehicles on the road emitting toxic pollution and it thus quickens the thinning of the ozone layer. Scientists warn that if people do not come up with appropriate measures to deal with vehicle pollution, Earth will not be inhabitable in the future. In addition, it is not only Earth but also human beings that suffer from the side effects of the transportation system. There are an increasing number of people who suffer from respiration related diseases such as lung cancer that is known to be caused by chronic inhaling of polluted air.
Furthermore, some people raise a question whether the invention of electronic devices such as smartphones has really brought a better environment to live in. It is evident that the convenience these electronics have brought is amazing. Nevertheless, this convenience, ironically, has downside to it. Some people argue that smartphones are overly convenient that they are highly addictive. They are addicting because it has too many functions. It allows people to surf on the Internet, watch TV and read magazines while listening to music at the same time. As much as is convenient, it is addicting. Addiction should be taken seriously as it causes secondary effects such as obesity and lack of communication between individuals.
In conclusion, high technology is a double edged sword in a sense that it has both upside and downside. Transportation system brings greater locomotion yet it also brings pollution. Smartphones bring entertainment to people but also cause addiction. Having said all, we have to take a moment to think whether technology has really brought a better environment for us.
