Recently, there have been many controversial arguments concerning the necessity of assigning daily homework. There are still on-going debates on this topic, and the answer to this topic can vary greatly depending on the individual perspectives, as not all stand on the same angle. However, in this set of essay, I believe that teachers should not assign homework everyday to students for the following two noteworthy reasons. First, students can learn a lot more from activities other than studying. Second, not all students have the same weak subjects.
To begin with, students should be able to get enough time to experience various activities. In today’s competitive society, many teachers and parents think that studying is the best way to make their children competitive. However, the prejudice they have is incorrect. In order to become competitive, the students must have knowledge from various fields and sources. Thus, it’s vital for the students to experience many new activities, instead of doing homework everyday in front of a desk. According to a study held by the Ministry of Education, they have compared to two different middle schools. where One on offered offers a variety of after school activities and the other assigned assigns homework daily. The school with a variety of activities tended to have more creative and intelligent students, whereas the school with daily homework had a negative atmosphere among students. In this regard, it is evident that teachers should avoid assigning homework everyday to the students.
In addition, since the students have different weaknesses, they should focus on their own weak subjects. When homework is are assigned to students, they are usually assigned it is usually same to the whole class, not different to individual students. Therefore, it is impossible for students to study their weak subjects in on their own. To take myself for instance, when I attended school in America, I was given math homework everyday. However, being an immigrant from Korea, I really didn’t have a hard time solving math problems, but I had trouble writing English essays. Although I personally wanted to focus on learning new vocabularies for writing essays, I had nearly no time left after doing the math homework. Eventually, I had trouble in my English class and received a bad grade in that class. If I was not assigned daily math homework, I probably would had the enough time to study vocabularies and get a better grade. In this sense, it is apparent that daily homework is are not always helpful and necessary for the students.
In conclusion, I strongly for my standpoint on account of the two reasons: there are variety of activities other than doing homework which students can learn from, and student should be able to focus on their own weak subjects. Although the verdict may still be out, considering the above two reasons, there is no doubt that assigning daily homework is unnecessary for students.
