According to the development of mess media, many people tend to spend more time on watching TV than reading books. So it is controversial that TV can make people learn more than books. I firmly disagree with the statement. This is because books offer much more detail, and it is a good way to develop creativity.
First of all, books can deliver more much information that TV cannot. This is because most TV programs have a limited time. So many producers tend to compress a story, and this often causes restricted information. For example, when I wrote a paper report regarding to whales, one of my friends recommended some documentary about it. The documentary was totally useless for me because the information was so basic level and didn’t deal with any particular subjects professionally. So I borrowed some books about whales from school library, and there were much profound and high quality information. Thanks to those books, I could get a good grade.
Secondly, creativity can be developed by reading books. Since time limitation, a number of producers don’t make a program that requires viewers to think deeply. So viewers just enjoy TV passively. Meanwhile, books make people consider a lot and many different ways because of none of visual things which let people have stereotype. For example, when I first saw “Norwegian Wood”, I didn’t get any stimulation. However, when I read it with book, it was totally different. I had much time to think about some favorite phrases while TV just skipped quickly the scenes for conveying other information. So I could image in many diverse ways and touched a lot. After reading the book, I kept reading a lot of books instead of watching TV. Through reading a large amount of books, I could see that my creativity developed a lot.
To sum up, books have more beneficial effects than that of TV because books bring more much information and are effective to developing creativity. In this regard, I strongly disagree with the statement for the reasons I mentioned above.
