A thought-provoking current issue concerns influential people on a child’s success. Some believe that classmates are a more important influence on a child’s success in school than parents. It is therefore timely to consider the validity of this perspective. For the following reasons, I disagree that classmates are more influential people for child’s success in school than parents. First, parents can give academic advice; second, they can make their child feel at ease.
To begin with, I believe that parents can influence more than classmates since parents can give their child a lot of academic tips. Since parents already experienced school before, they may already know many problems that many children face now. So advice from parents can give children important help. For example, when I was in high school, I had a problem with mathematics. At that time, since my classmates were also poor at mathematics, I could not get help from them. However, I can get a lot of crucial tips from my father because my father majored in mathematics in college. So I could get A+ on the math test. This example shows that parents can affect more than classmates on child’s success in school since they can give academic tips to their children.
In addition, parents can make their child feel comfortable. The world is becoming more and more competitive so in order to succeed in schoolwork, people should be able to feel comfortable when they study. This is because comfort increases productivity of studying. According to a research conducted by Harvard University, students who feel at ease tend to get better grades. This comfort can be received by parents, not by their friends while parents give their children love and pleasure. This example shows that parents are more influential people than classmates on a child’s success because they can give their child mental help.
As mentioned above, I firmly believe that children are affected more by their parents, not by their classmates. This is because parents can give children academic advice and help children feel comfortable.
