▶ Your Answer :
I have seen and heard a lot of statements from the books or lectures which argue that fewer possessions make people feel happy. However, I do not agree with this idea. Although more possessions do not bring people happiness, it is not true that fewer possessions bring happiness to people either. Therefore, I think certain level of possessions is necessary for people. This is because some level of possessions is necessary to handle extreme situations and this idea is not possible for common people.
To begin with, sufficient possessions help people to overcome the emegency situation. In case of the possession, money, is especially necessary for people to afford the urgent event such as severe diseases or injuries. Especially, curing a disease costs so much that it requires people a fortune. It even bankrupt someone who affords that cost. They can utilize their financial possessions to cure themselves or others. For example, one of my friends whose mother was sick, could cure his mother thanks to his savings which he had been accumulated for a long time. Therefore, his mother could be cured.
Secondly, the idea that fewer possessions can make people feel happy is only possible for religious people. In terms of clergies or monks, they can make their livings without any possessions. This is because there are the system and supports. On the other hand, there are no systems or supports for common people to live without any belongings. As a result, they cannot live without any possessions. For instance, monks in a temple can make their livings by financial or physical supports from religious believers. Thus they can be happy with no possessions. Thus the idea that fewer possessions make people feel happy is not realizable.
In conclusion, the idea that fewer possessions make people be happy is not possible because some level of possessions are necessary to surmount hardships. In addition, the idea is not realistic other than clergies or monks who can be supported from their believers. In this regard, I do not agree with the argument.
