There are pros and cons about whether extended family members are less important than prior periods. I strongly disagree with this idea. There are many reasons that can support my argument but two main reasons are presented below in detail.
First, extended members are important for our talents. This is because, by observing close at hand, they can help us develop talents we never knew we had. Today we lead highly scheduled lives as the world becomes more competitive and fast-paced than ever. As a result, we can miss chances to stumble on the field we actually desire to study. This explains the need for extended families' involvement in honing our talents that might have been buried for many years. Referring to the study from Harvard University, experts now argue that people who have close connections with extended family members not only choose the correct career path at the early age but also develop their potential holistically. Actually, the surveyed students stated that they might have wasted much time if it had not been for family members' counseling and assistance during their early years. Because most family members such as grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles have many experiences while they have lived their own lives, they can give us many valuable advices for our future. Therefore, extended family members are very important and should not be ignored.
In addition, extended members are needed for communication and stress relaxation. This is attributed to the fact that they can help us to bond with each other. In order to adapt the harshness of today's lifestyle, people have become increasingly indifferet to those around them. Consequently, the traditional notion of friendship has weakened and family ties have loosened, and also our stress level can be heightened because there are not many people to talk about. These situations explain the necessity for the help of the extended family members. My own personal experience can be used to prove this point. Every morning, I have to work through traffic-clogged roads to go to school. While I am at school, I have to read through countless books to get high grades. As a result, I become more indifferent to my friends and families. Fortunately, however, my uncles and aunts always try to talk with me to help lowering my stress level, and it is really helpful. Furthermore, while I talk with my extended families, I can freely express my opinions about many interesting topics, and also learn to accept different opinions from my uncles and aunts. These experiences helped me to learn different perspectives and actions from others, allowing me to become more socially aware and considerate. Clearly, the extended families' role is not paltry and they are becoming more important than it is in the past as the world becomes more indifferent to others.
To sum up, extended family is very important. They give us valuable advice for our talents. Also they are important members for enhencing communication skills. The role of the extended members of our family should not be disregarded, rather be highly regarded over time.
