Nowadays as population is being largely increased, competition for getting a job is being harder and harder. Due to this social trend, some people insists that students should be educated about specific careers and fields. However I disagree with this idea for some reasons. I'll explain further below.
First of all, since every career is based on general knowledge, people who have learned diverse general principles and knowledge will be able to easily handle tasks with strong background of knowledge. On the other hand, if people concentrate only on enhancing their practical skills that can be directly applied in their potential jobs, they possibly can not solve problems that they could not expect because they are lack of basic knowledge. For example, in my company, Samsung Electronics, there are university graduate people and high school graduate people. Normally when unexpected problems occur, university graduated people suggest various idea to solve them, but on the other hand, high school graduate people, although they spent much more time in working field than the former group, do not bring up solution well. This seems because people who only worked without enough knowledge have limits to think widely.
Also, high school years is too early for students to decide their future jobs. To be specific, If they study about a specific working field, they will be difficult to change their career goal after on and their scope of knowledge will be narrowed down. For instance, my young cousin, when he was 13 years old, decided to enter cooking school because he was totally fascinated with it. Fortunately - at that time- his parents respected his opinion and allowed him to enter the cooking school. However, after taking professional cooking courses when he was already 18 years old, he just figured out that cooking is not only entertaining but also tough. He also hoped to have experienced other fields. Like this, we can see many people who studied in specialty schools such as music school, sports school and so on, and finally end up to turn their fields because they realized that they do not fit in to the works. Major reason for this is that those students were not mature enough to think about their future from diverse angles when they decide to choose specialty schools. As we can infer how will be the situation that all the students decide their career goal when they are teenagers; many of them will regret about their former decisions, students should at first collect much knowledge of various fields to raise their ability to think about their future.
To sum up, stacking basic knowledge when students attend school is very important. First of all they can apply this valuable knowledge in their future job. In addition, they can grow their ability to think about their future with more wise. For these reasons I oppose to the idea that high school and university students should learn about specific careers.
