There has been an argument regarding the issue that today's parents could not understand their children better than parents did fifty years ago. There are myriads of people insist that parents in modern times understand their children better because they are much familiar with their children in comparison with the parents fifty years ago. Though, from my perspective, parents today are lack of understnading of their children because of the two reasons below.
First of all, nowadays, cultural gap between the generation of parents and children is much bigger than the past. This is based on the fact that current technological development speed is so fast, hence, parents are hard to catch up with that speed. Consequently, this unbalance of understanding the technology causes the misunderstanding of the trend of children's generation. For example, in the past, parents and their children usually spent time together by doing some excercise or reading a book together, on the contrary, todays children feel uncomfortable to speak with their parent about their hobby or worries because they think their parents could not understand their generation's trends.
Secondly, these days, the rate of both parents who are working is increasing. This causes the parents could not spend enough time with thier children. Moreover, this lack of time makes the parents hard to understand their children rather than the parents in the past. For example, the reserch conducted by Korea University proved that more than 80 percent of parents who work both wife and husband stated that it is hard to understand their childrens feeling. Only less than 30 percent of parents are stated that there are no problem with their children. This directly prove that parents these days are hard to get to know their children than those of 50 years ago.
To sum up, today's parents are difficult to understand their childrens in comparison with the parents in the past. It is because there are cultural gap between both generations and increasing rate of both husband and wife working families. |
