There might be some people who
believe that universities and high schools should teach
students about certain jobs and fields rather than general subjects. However, I
disagree with the above idea for the two subsequence reasons. First, students
cannot receive well-rounded education. Second, general subjects are able to
help for their future career.
First of all, students aren’t able to receive well-balanced education. To be specific, besides
specific careers, universities and high schools should teach students sense of
value such as ethics, morals and justice for them to grow up as matured adult. According to recent research
done by EBG institute, a majority of successful leaders said that they can
be inspired by studying general subjects. That is because they can expand their
way of thinking and learn a way to understanding other people by studying
general subjects. This clearly
shows that teaching general subjects in universities and high schools is
a way to raise matured adults.
Secondly, learning general subjects is helpful for student’s future job. What
this means is that students are exposed to a variety of information. With that
information, young students can find their talent, which can be beneficial when
they find their new career path or work in their field. Let me bring up my
personal story as an example. When I was majoring architecture in university, because
I knew what I want, I didn’t want to study others except architecture. However,
my university required for every students to study general subjects. Thus I was
reluctantly choice philosophy. At first, that was bored but as time went by I
was interested in that. I decided to minor in philosophy, and now, I am a philosophy
teacher. If I had not studied, I could not have found my present occupation.
In conclusion, learning
general subject not only receive well-balanced education but also help students
to find their job. In this regard, I firmly believe that universities and high
schools should teach students about general subjects rather than certain
careers.
