It is often said that speaking is not (as) important as much
as we expected in social life because in modern society, people
depend less on speaking to communicate with others. However, opposed to such
thought, speaking skill can be (a) more crucial
factors in life than writing one
for two reasons: they can help make relationships and people are more dependent
on speaking.
To begin with, good speaking ability enables people to
make relationships properly. This is attributed to the fact that most of
relationships are made through speaking rather than other ability(ies) such as writing. According to the Ministry of
Labor of Korea in 2009, there was a huge difference between two groups of
employees in dealing with problems. Employees who liked to speak was (were) classified
as group A and those who liked to write was (were) classified as group B. After one year later,
the researchers tracked down the both
groups and observed that the former group of employees has made good
relationships among other coworkers. Besides, they can solve problems more
wisely, get help easily from others, and did well in their work. On the other
hand, those in group B had more problems between coworkers and they did not
build a closer rapport (=relationship / bond) with
others. This implies that such
conversation skill is one of the significant component(s)
in making good relationships.
In addition, today's people are likely to less rely (less)
upon writing. This is due to the fact
that speaking is more efficient way to deliver opinion. Moreover, as modern
society is becoming increasingly competitive and busy, people tend to use
cellular phones rather than send (text) messages. According to a study conducted by
Seoul National University of Korea in 2010, the number of people who speak over
phones was much higher than the number of those who send massage. Among subjectives (the
sample), people using telephone conversation accounted for 80 percent of
all (those who used cell phones). The
contributing factor was that people easily got stressed out by sending message(s) and they were likely to speak because it is more
convenient. This implies that speaking is more important than writing because
it is more convenient way to communicate with others and more people is (are) becoming
dependent on speaking rather than writing.
