As technology developped in the world, our lives have been unquestionably more convienient. With televison, the informations circulate faster and it changed leisure activities of people. However, development of television did not only lead to the goods of our society. It severed the conversation between family members. The rationale behind this is that watching televison doesn't require much thinking. In addition, television changed the habits of traditional family by watching television during the dinner.
To begin with, watching television is an activity that doesn't require much concentration nor thinking. People who watch television usually accept what kind of information television gives us. It is now common to see all of the family sitting on the couch, looking at the same direction and watching television for hours non-stop. Their eyes look vague and they have a round figures that fit the couch perfectly. In this situation, there are less conversation during the show and more watching the show repeatedly without thinking and relaxing. To illustrate this point, when our family first moved to this country, we had nothing to do but to watch television in the living room. The days went on and on just like that. We were all wasting time in front of the television. One day, my mother decided to stop this situation by moving the television in the master's bedroom. When the television was out of sight, we could be more focused on ourselves and talk to each other more often. Without television, I certainly experienced an increase in conversation.
On top of that, television has changed our habits in a bad way. In a traditional families, they usually eat dinner together, talking politely to each other. This is the image we have for normal family. In this image they don't include people gazing at the screeen incessently. Nevertheless, in our society in the 21 century, it is hard to find a family that doesn't have their television off during dinner time. This time was supposed to be a time to talking with each other about their day. But instead, they all watch television. Also, this situation is bad for their digestive system because children need time to chew at their own speed and digest their food. When they watch television, they tend to gulp their food in the hurry to watch the television.
In conclusion, television has change our society by cutting the conversation in the family. This is becaruse television is an activity that doesn't requires thinking and also it completely changed our habits. |
