Some people prefer to focus on academics. They think that it is original and rudimental reason of studying at university. Other people, including me, against this approach. Life itself is bigger than academics and there are other skills that students should learn to make one's living on campus. Since, students can expand interpersonals skill and teamwork through club and/or organizational activities, I think students should be a part of a clubs.
To begin with, students can meet people from diverse background and learn how to communicate with them. When one stays in a certain academic field, chances are rare to interact with a variety of people.
To be specific, I was a member of English discussion club during my first year in a university. At that club I can meet people from all different departments such as economics, mathmatics, and fine arts. Since people have different perspectives and approaches regarding current issues, I can learn a lot from them. Comparing to the regular classes that I was obliged to take during the semester, I can learn how to access to the issues with certain direction or tendency. Therefore, I believe people can take a great deal of benefits when they join club activities out of one's department.
In addition, students can learn how to work as a team through club activities. There are lots of opportunities to work and/or perform as a team during festivals and competitions on campus. For the academic achievement, one should spend substantial amount of time to review literatures and reports. Therefore, students should focus on academics in sedentary and solitary mood. On the other hand, while participating in festivals and competitions, students must work together as a team. For example, I was a member of swimming team and got team trainings with members. Although it was difficult to get harsh training, I can take pleasures from the training because it was 'OUR GOAL' to win the first prize.
To sum up, I believe joining a club and participating its activities is significant for students to develop a wide range of perspective and teamwork. For the reasons I mentioned above, I strongly for the main statement.
