▶ Your Answer :
Some might say education is the major
purpose of television. However, others might claim that the primary reason of
existence of televisions is human entertaining. Even though I think both
purposes are major factors of television being, if I have to choose only one, I
will take second one.
The first evidence which supports my
opinion is that the number of educational program is less than that of
entertaining program. When we turn on the television, more than eighty percent
of program genre is comedy and drama. In my country, among entire public
channels, the proportion of education channel is only one fifth. I think this
fact is the reflection of public preference. Since public think the main
purpose of television is watching entertainment programs, and broadcasting companies
seek to their preference, the number of entertainment programs has been
naturally increased. Of course, the realm of educational program has been
relatively decreased.
Moreover, even though television is one of
the simplest and cheapest ways to be amused, there are lots of alterations to
be educated. For example, reading books is easier way to get knowledge than
watching television. We just pick up the book and find the page to get
information. In contrast, when we try to learn something from a television
program, we have to wait for air time and we cannot skip unnecessary part of
information. On the other hand, for entertaining, usually we have to go
outside, if there is no television in home. Therefore, I think the first reason
of television existence is for human entertaining.
As I have stated above, entertainment is
the major purpose of television, considering the fact that proportion of
program genre and merits.
