There has been a debate as to whether young people should try several different jobs before deciding what career to have in the long term. I disagree that it is necessary for young people to try several different jobs before deciding their long term career for two reasons. First, high competency in job market in my country would not allow young people to have a chance of attaining jobs if they spent time trying several different jobs for their long term career. Second, trying several different jobs prevent young people to develop their specialty in one field.
More than anything else, because of high competency in job market in my country, young people would not have a chance of attaining jobs in case that they spend time trying several different jobs for their long term career. Some people think that trying different jobs would be helpful for their long term career. However, let me show you an example to demonstrate why it is not helpful for long term career. These days, domestic companies in my country are having difficulty with competitors. Chinese business are catching in many industries. Advanced countries are developing new and innovative technologies. Naturally, firms are applying stricter standards in recruitment. Besides, recent economic downturns have led companies to fire multiple employees. As a result, only potential employees who experience high skill levels are having a chance to attaining jobs. High school and college students devote themselves to attaining practical knowledge and skills. In this tough situation, young people would not have competitiveness in job market if they spend time trying several different jobs.
Furthermore, it is difficult for young people to develop their specialty in one field in the long run if they try several different jobs. Let me show you an example. My uncle had worked for automobile company for five years. However, he was interested in cooking and transferred for cooking school. After graduating from cooking school, he finally got a job in restaurant, but he was not satisfied with the low salary in restaurant and entered the former company again. Now, he is not specialized in any field and have difficulty to get a promotion. This proves that trying several different jobs prevent people to develop their career and get competitiveness in one field.
In conclusion, I disagree that it is necessary for young people to try several different jobs before deciding their long term career for the reasons I have mentioned above. First, because of high competency in job market in my country, young people would not have a chance of attaining jobs in case that they spend time trying several different jobs for their long term career. Second, it is difficult for young people to develop their specialty in one field in the long run if they try several different jobs.
