Some people think that it is essential to search information from lots of news sources to keep well-informed. However, in my opinion, news sources discourage people from being well-informed, because they usually exaggerate stories and don't let people make good decisions.
First of all, news sources tend to make stories more realistic and dramatic. This is because they need more viewers to maximize profits, which is hard for viewers to know well about real facts. For example, a broad station in Korea had to apologize to their viewers for its report on Kimchi. In its report, most of kimchi was made in unhealthful environments. However, actually, only a few factories had inappropriate surroundings for making kimchi. Because of this report, many people stopped buying kimchi, and many kimchi restaurants had to shut down. This case shows that news sources deliberately exaggerate facts
On top of that, using various news data cause people to have problems when they make decisions. This is because each news has different views for facts or stories. Therefore, it makes people confused and stops making good choices. For example, last year, I tried to buy a new mp3 player. Since I didn't have any information on mp3 players, I decided to look through ads in news paper. However, it didn't help me to choose one at all, because there were so many mp3 players in news sources and they described them in different ways although they were same design and from same brand.
To sum up, news sources doesn't offer true facts and make people hesitate to choose something. In this regard, news sources don't help become well-informed. |
