We have seen diverse and many news. A large number of people believe news is fair media to get information about politic or economic issues. However, in my opinion, it is harmful to find news perfectly impartial media because news paper company or broadcasting company depend much on profit on advertisement and news tries to draw attentions of people.
To begin with, news media relies on gain from advertisement to run company. As profit from news itself is very small, dependence on advertisement increases. Actually, most of profit of news company is made of money from advertisement. In this situation, news media can't criticize large companies. News company edit and publish articles following favor of big companies. For example, when scandal about corruption in large company emerged, some newspapers wrote and published the article about it. However, some of news media that were connected to the firm didn't comment the fact.
On top of that, news media edit and exaggerate articles to receive attentions. To gain profit, news company should be caught public's attentions. The more provocative articles are, the higher people's attentions are. So news media exaggerate fact or edit article on purpose. For example, after reporter interview with famous baseball player, article about the interview published. Some saying of player made the public angry because the saying was so rude and lack of work ethic. However, true fact was different from the article. Player's mentions were changed on purpose.
To sum up, news company should follow big company's taste and gain population by editing articles. In this regard news media is not believable sources. |
