Some people contend that people need to buy things that are produced by their own country regardless how much products cost. I, however, do not agree such argument. There are many reasons that could espouse my position, but the two biggest reasons that I support will be explained in the following.
First of all, buying products produced only in our own country would weaken the competitiveness of our country. As the functions of product become complex and sophisticated, it is crucial for firms in the world to cooperate to develop those products. Thus, buying things from the world will make firm work together to produce the product that current customers need. For example, the company I work for is manufacturing firm, which develops rechargeable batteries for electric cars. To make the batteries, we buy key materials, such as cobalt, polymer separator, and titanium oxide from the company in Japan. Without the help of cooperation with the firm in oversea, we could not have developed the battery which we could supply to current vehicle companies. By extension, the competitiveness of the country will be weakened.
Moreover, pursuing to buy things that are produced domestically would raise costs of products, and thus raise consumer prices. In the light of competition with imported products, the price of products could decline. This relationship between price and competition is much more effective when people can buy products from the world. According to the economy magazine in Korea, the cost of common price has been declined because of reduced tax for imported products. The editorial also suggests that people, especially the middle class, are benefiting out of this tax reduction policy because people could buy necessities such as electronic products, clothes, and groceries in low price.
All things considered, because of the reasons that I mentioned above, I strongly disagree with the statement that even though the products from other countries inexpensive, people should buy products made from their country. It will hinder people to purchase things reasonable price as well as weaken the competitiveness of country. |
