Recently, there have been a lot of controversial issues concerning the necessity of zoos, as some believe that zoos serve no useful functions. There are still on-going debates on this issue, and the answer to this topic can vary greatly depending on the individual perspectives. However, in this set of essay, I disagree with the topic for the following two noteworthy reasons. First, zoos are the only place where people can actually see variety of animals. Second, zoos serve as a great educational place for the children.
To begin with, people can get a chance to meet and observe various animals only in the zoos these days. With the growing pollution in our environment, the animal’s habitats are being destroyed severely, and it is getting harder and harder to see wild animals in the nature. Now, the easiest and the most convenient way to actually meet animals is to visit zoos. Zoos have variety of species that we cannot see in the cities, such as lions, tigers, elephants, etc. Without zoos, people won’t be able to get a chance to see these animals, unless they decide to travel all over the world to see them. To take myself for an example, although I live in a fairly unpolluted area, I can rarely see wild animals in my town. However, the last time I visited the zoo, I met variety of animals from all over the world, like penguins and polar bears. I even met some animals that I never heard of, and without the zoos I probably never would have learned about those unfamiliar animals. In this regard, it is evident that zoos are serve many useful functions and should be kept.
In addition, zoos can be a great place for children to be educated. In today’s technological society, many children only interact with the world via electronic systems, such as smart phones, computers and televisions. Many children are also educated by using these technologies. However, although education using the technology devices can be convenient and exciting, they do not offer children to actually experience what they learn. This is also true with the animals. It would be a great experience for the children to visit zoos and interact with the actual animals, which they have seen only through the screens of the electronic devices. By interacting with them directly, the children can learn many lessons, such as the importance of life and environment. According to the Ministry of Education, the number of schools going on a field trip to the zoos has been increasing significantly. It has been reported that many school districts are promoting these field trips to zoos to give the children the opportunity to experience the nature. In this sense, it is apparent that zoos have many useful purposes.
In conclusion, I strongly argue for my stand point on account of the two reasons: zoos are one of the few places for people to see the actual animals, and zoos can serve as an educational place for the children. Although the verdict may still be out, with regards to the two reasons, there is no doubt that the zoos are a necessary place for people, and serves many useful features. |
