In Korea, these days
almost all people go to college or university comparing
to the past (these days). There might
be many different reasons to attend
college or university, but I think the most important reason for attending
university is that people who graduate from university can get a better
job(s).
Firstly, there are many companies recruiting their
employees, but when we look into their requirements for
the job, most of them want a person
who graduated from college or university (college
graduates = it’s unnecessary to say ‘college or university’ just ‘college will
do). If someone doesn't have a bachelor's degree, he or she even can(not even)
have a chance to apply for the job. For example, I had an opportunity to hire a
new team member when I was a team manager at (a)
company. At that time, my company didn't want a person who didn't graduate from university (without a degree = double negative).
Moreover, it is getting more difficult to get a good
job as the economy is in recession. Even (for) someone
graduated from a good university, it is hard to enter a company right after the graduation. There are so many applicants
out there, and there are not enough companies to hire all of them. Companies
don't have a time to read all the applications, so they may just screen the
applications. In this process, whether someone graduate(d)
from university or not could be one of the simplest way to measure an
applicant's ability.
In conclusion, people go to college or university, because they have to get a good job. The environment of recruiting (job market) is getting more severe (competitive),
and only very competitive (competent) applicants can get a nice job. Graduating
from university is one of the basic requirements for that.
