▶ Your Answer :
There might be some people who think that understanding
the past is critical to deal with the problems of today and future. However, I
personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons. First, the
atmosphere of today is fairly different from the past. Second, there is always
possibility of exception.
To begin with, today’s situation is not
same with the past’s. As lot of technology are appearing nowadays, the speed of
exchanging each other’s opinion is being much faster than before. Due to this trend,
applying old ideas to today’s matter cannot be logical. For instance, there was
a study conducted by Yonsei University to see whether people today have the
mindset which is similar to the past mindset. However, according to the result,
the majority of respondents stated that they deal with their problems by trying
the ideas that they haven’t come up with before. They said that today’s
different atmosphere, such as abundant technology development, may encourage
them to act this way. This clearly shows that people today want to deal with today’s
problem without serious consideration of the past experiences.
On top of that, there is always exception
in our society. If we could solve all the problems by only applying past
information, there would be much less problem nowadays. However, it is natural
for us to face with unprecedented problems frequently. Let me bring up my personal
story as an example. When I was in middle school, there were some cases of violence
among some students in our school. When this happened, students who got punched
usually announced to their teachers or police officers by giving evidences.
However, when I was in high school, new violence cases appeared: Cyber-bulling.
As students who afflicted other students easily deleted evidences and could
conceal their information by making several ID, it became much harder to deal
with the problem. Reflecting these cases, I think it is far more important to come
up with new ideas than concerning past cases several times.
In conclusion, I think today’s different atmosphere
makes it hard to apply past solution. Additionally, there is possibility that exceptional
cases might always come into being. In this regard, I firmly believe that
comprehending the past isn’t really crucial to solve problems which we are
facing now.
