▶ Your Answer : During a class or a meeting, the teacher or the meeting leader can say something wrong. They are also one of persons so they can make a mistake. If I were in the situation, I would wait until the class or meeting is over, and then talk to them personally and secretly. This is because they can be embrassed and can ruin the rest of the class or the meeting and they must know about the mistake in case the mistake is an important part of the class or the meeting.
To start with, they may be upset and have a difficulty to go on the class or the meeting if I pointed out the mistake of them in front of others. People hate to exposure their mistakes to other people. Especially, the high-rank persons who is like teachers or leaders do not want the situation that they have to admit their incorrections. Furthermore, It can influence the rest of the class and meeting. For instance, I had a chance to present about the project of army weapons. I am an army officer and people think I am an professional in the field of military. During the presentation, one of audiences asked me the exact function of the weapons in an international field and the question was embrassing me because I had never thought about that. I was not able to answer correctly and people started to doubts my professional. I could not keep presenting well and ruined my presentation eventually.
On top of that, they have to know about their mistakes because they can make the same mistakes repeatedly. Of course, they can find out their mistakes unless I told them the truth. But, the mistake is an important part of the class or the meeting, it could bring a harmful result. So I would like to point out the wrong right after the class or meeting is over in order to give them a chance to make it right. For example, I had a history class last semester. One day, the professor writed down on the white board "the Korean war happened in 1590". I knew that the year of the event was 1950 but I did not want interrupt the class. I thought it was not important information in the class so I ignored it. Unfortunately, the next class quiz asked us when the Korean war happened and many students missed the point. If I had told the professor that he made a mistake after class, he would have corrected the year because it was on quiz.
To sum up, when the teacher or the meeting leader says something wrong and when we recognize it, we have three options. If we interrupt the class or the meeting, the teacher or the meeting leader can be embrassed and can not do well in the rest of the class or the meeting. But, if we keep silence and ignore it, it can be a harmful result. In this regard, I would wait until the class or meeting ends and talk to them about the mistake. |
