Usually, instincts of people tell them not to stray too far from the sidewalk, and keep on the safe side as much as possible so they don't hurt themselves. However, despite this instinct, there has always been some people who are attracted to dangerous activities. Although I am not a member of those ones, I totally can understand the reasons behind the attraction.
To begin with, man were born not only with nature of self-protection, but also with a craving of overcoming one's limitations, and dangerous sports or activities are very good examples that can fulfill this desire. Most of the time, people see something as hazardous when it is a novelty that one has not experienced before, hence not used to such as height and ocean. At this point, some people who feel curiosity towards these unaccustomed circumstances appear, and these ones may start to try unexperienced things and totally understand them, which means overcoming what they thought was their limitation regarding these novelties. For example, when I was younger and went to a ski resort for the first time of my life, I could not enjoy this sport very much since I was afraid of getting stuck in the middle of the slope, and actually, I did so a couple of times later. But even experiencing the event I feared, I came to understand that skiing is an interesting sport. I learned how to zigzag the snowy slope with my intuition, and now from what I believe, I can ski very well as a result of overcoming a thing which I thought is dangerous.
In addition, dangerous, extreme activities are effective at relieving stress. Apart from the idea of achieving an objective, the thrill and excitement that can only be found by trying activities that somehow seem dangerous or reckless can blow out one's stressful memories very well. According to the statistics given by Fair Trade Commitee, the number of people who find amusement parks increased more than 20 million people in the last 4 years. Considering that the rides in amusement parks are designed to pull out one's panic and feeling of excitement to the full extent, one can ostensibly see the fact that people think positively about the 'danger' in their leisure times, since it can give proper amount of happiness.
To sum up, people enjoy dangerous activities and extreme sports to relieve stress, and also to feel the accomplishment of overcoming oneself's limitation. I personally believe that these activities that make us feel the unusual tension can make our lives more prolific and joyful. |
