▶ Your Answer : The reading passage contends that the cause of collapse in Teotihuacan is considered as reliable by three theories. On the other hand, the lecturer brings up several points that contradict this argument. First, the speaker argues that small part of the city was burned by foreign invasion. In other words, foreigners did not critical damage to the city, which was a direct ground of collapse. Moreover, archaeologists found arts and crafts from the city after fire and it implied people in Teotihuacan lived after invasion. with this regard, it was not true that foreign invasion made a dead city by burning. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s contends that city was slowly declined by foreign invasion by the method of burning. Not only that, unrepaired the city after being inflamed was difficult to live any more for people in Teotihuacan. Second, according to the lecturer, Teoitihuacan people already solve a concern of severe drought. Even though they had suffered from limited rainfall, they had coped with it very well by irrigation like built canals. In addition, since the area of Teotihuacan had been drought for a long time, drought was not a big deal to those people in the city. This counters the reading passage’s argument that drought was a serious problem which was related to reduce of people by deaths in Teotihuacan. The final point made by the lecturer is that citizens in Teotiguacan overcame deforestation. In fact, despite the tree around the city had been cleared over hundreds of years, they get over challenge by trading woods in order to meet demands in the city. This refutes the reading passage’s assertion that deforestation is the main factor of migration and it led to collapse consequently.
