▶ Your Answer :
It is
often warned to make a hasty conclusion based on a part of information, because
it is likely to be a wrong decision. Particularly, when it comes to first
impressions, it is regarded to avoid. Also, the stereotype that makes someone
evaluated at first look should be eliminated. Be that as it may, I believe that
first impressions tell many aspects of someone. It is not only because
nonverbal aspects such as facial expressions reflect someone’s personality, but
also because their fashion sense shows their thoughts and beliefs.
First
and foremost, nonverbal communication is a mirror of someone’s personality. In
other words, nonverbal aspects such as facial expressions, gestures, and tone
of voice can function as a channel to represent one’s inner side. People can
collect a bunch of information on someone via nonverbal communication and
notice what type of person she/he is. As an illustration, it is evidenced that
wrinkles are formed in different places on face according to their emotion.
Therefore, bad-tempered person might have high chance to have a furrow between
their eyebrows or a wrinkled forehead, whereas warm-hearted person is likely to
have wrinkles made along with smile. In this respect, I believe first
impressions can allow us to capture a wide range of information on someone.
Moreover,
I am of that opinion that the way someone dresses can indicate one’s belief and
thoughts. All in all, people attempt to show off their personality by clothing.
In general, someone favoring clear-cut decision making prefer to neat and
gentle clothing, whereas others in favor of freedom and flexible decision
making prefer to casual and/or unique clothing. For instance, one of my
professors who put importance on accurate and clear speaking in class always
wore black and grey monotone dresses. On the other hand, my art professor wore
a Hawaiian patterned shirt and shorts in his class on occasions. Based on my
experience, I support the idea that first impressions can help us get to know
someone better through someone’s outfits.
In
conclusion, although it is known that first impressions can mislead us due to
its restrictive information, as far as I am concerned, it is still valid to
recognize a variety of aspects of people based on their first impressions. It
is because first impressions are built off of one’s general affection and their
outfits, which represent one’s personality.
