Current education system that teaches wide area of studies to students in high schools and universities is really sensitive issue to student themselves. Some people often advocates that teaching many different subjects to students is useless and wasting time because it will not help them in future. However, as far as I'm concerned, I strongly believe teaching general subjects to young learners will definitely help their later life for two reasons: it helps students to figure out what are they interest in, and increase their background knowledge. First of all, most of the students in early twenties do not know what they want to do in their future. To be specific, this is because they do not know why they need to study. Students in that age study just because most of their peers are also studying. So, learning various areas of study is really important in order to find their future job. Since they contact many different kinds of fields of study, they can find what are they good at. In order to give more accurate detail, in my highschool year, I had no idea with what should I do later not only about my future job ,but also should I even go to university for further studies because I had no interest in study. However, after I took chemistry class for the first time, everything looked so fascinating and different. The whole world looks so different before taking chemistry class after I learned all the object are made of molecule. So, I chose to become industry chemist. In this sense, contacting many different studies help students to find their interest. Also, having wide background knowledge eventually help people to make friend in both directly and indirectly. To be honest, we are living in a society where a person of great knowledge is respected. This is because having different field of knowledge helps people to have better communicating level with other people. According to a psychological study done by Buffalo university in 2011, it said that having similar knowledge with other people greatly help developing familiarity with others. Making soft communication through talking about same topic, it ie easy to make friend in that way. The more students learn about general subjects, the more they can easily make friends. To sum up, teaching general subjects to students has resulted many benefits students such as helping students to find what whey want to do in future and making many friends through various knowledge. In this regards, I firmly believe that schools should definitely teach many fields on study not only specific subjects. |
