Some people say that it is unrealistic for people to work at the same company for their entire lives. However, I disagree with this statement for two reasons. The first reason is that employees will become successful professinals faster. Not noly that, working at one company for the whole lives is also helpful financially to their companies.
First of all, by choosing one job, people will become successful more quickly at their particular world. Generally, changing jobs often wastes valuable times and makes it difficult to build a job.
For example, I have a friend who started his career as an accountant immediately after graduating. By the time he was 25, he had already been promoted to a managerial position. He became chief financial officer before the age of 30. This quick upward mobility has not been possible if he did not commit himself to one career at the company.
Secondly, if people commit to one company for their entire lives, the companies that hire them will don't have to waste money. Companies will naturally save on training costs and they will don't have to continually educate new workers.
For instance, a recent study by the Korean Ministry of Trade and Industry found that on average, training a single employee costs companies one-third of that employee's annual salary. Training is thus an important investment of financial resources which would be wasted if well trained workers left the company for other jobs. Moreover, because long term employees are well trained, they will work more effeciently. This will also produce positive financial gains for companies because workers will be more effective.
To sum up, if people choose to work at the same company for their entire lives, people will be promoted successfully at their company and the company will get economial gains. For these reasons, I believe that it is realistic and better for people to work at one company for the long term of their lives. |
