▶ Your Answer : There is an argument that university
requires students to take at least one class that teaches the culture of a
country other than their own. Some people say that focusing on their major is
better than other countries' cultures. My view, however, is that students in
college should have to take classes that teaches other countries' culture for
the two reasons. First, learning other countries' culture helps students to
broaden their horizon. Second, University can benefit from the mandatory
classes for global fame.
To begin with, students can develop their
international perspective by taking classes that teaches students the culture
of a country. In general, students in college are very busy due to preparation
about their job after graduation. Most of them don't focus on various classes
except for their majors. The problem is they even don't know how world is going
on these days. It definitely has adverse effect on their lives in the future.
To be specific, back in college, I was very fascinated in studying culture of
United States. I searched all the latest news about United States in my spare
time. Some of my friends indicated that those kinds of behaviors are useless at
that time. However, I started to see the connection between my majors and
cultures of United States. I could even understand other countries' culture
well. Of course, my friends who didn't take any class about culture of country
had a difficulty to broaden their horizon.
Moreover, University leverages the required
classes about the culture of countries for international fame. These days, it
is common to communicate between universities in the world. Also, every
university wants to connect the university which is well equipped with good
facilities and programs. If university have the policy such as taking at least
one class about other countries' culture, it is easier for the university to
advertise themselves to other universities. One article from The Korea Times
shows that university which have the facilities and programs for international
students have more chance to connect to popular university in the world. The article
also states that taking classes about other countries' cultures not only helps students
to broaden their horizon but also helps the university to maintain global
learning environment. In this regard, regulating the policy about taking
classes that teaches other countries' culture is necessary for both students
and university.
To sum up, I believe that learning other
countries' culture is very required for both students and college for the two
reasons that I have mentioned above. First, those classes help students to
equip the global horizon. Second, it is helpful for university to keep the
global learning environment and get a connection with other famous universities
in the world. |
