Some people do not think that grading encourages students to learn. However, in my opinion, grading can positively affect students with respect to learning for two reasons: to keep healthy and to enhance a sense of responsibility.
To begin with, evaluating grade allows students to stay healthy, which contributes to improving their concentration in class. In addition, concentrating during class helps students to take part in lessons actively, and healthy mental makes a diligent student in school. Most of students are easily stressed out when they do not appreciate their school score. In this sense, if so, they might be prone to lose their way in terms of achieving a higher goal. Moreover, these stress is very harmful for students. According to a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2012, a test on mice showed that lifespan was shorten when they regularly underwent series of electronic shocks. Interestingly, the researchers found a link between this and human beings who suffered from periodic stress. These implies that high stress levels coming from non-recording can negatively affects students, resulting in a shorter life span.
On top of that, recording grade plays a significant role in improving a sense of responsibility for students, which is a key to build good study habits. In fact, setting up students’ habit by grading records requires responsibilities such as, arriving at class on time, managing their time wisely, meeting deadlines, observing class regulations and thoroughly completing assignments. So, these good responsibility coming from desirable habit makes it possible to encourage students learning. According to a study conducted by Seoul National University of Korea in 2010, students who learn better through grading academically than their peers who do not grading because they know how to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities and consequently manage their time well. On the whole, students who record in class are more mature and better equipped to succeed than their non-recording peers. These benefits extend far outside the classroom.
To sum up, advantages of grading far outweigh disadvantages for students in terms of learning. This is because recording students grade can promotes students’ health as well as a sense of responsibilities. In this regard, I strongly agree with the statement that grading encourages students to learn for the reasons I mentioned above.
