▶ Your Answer : Some people
think that grading discourages students to learn instead of stimulating them to
study. However, in my opinion, most students are affected and
learn more by their grades for two following reasons.
To begin with, students
can get stimulus by the differences of the grades they get from each other. Students who get lower grades than the rivals
would study more to get better grades at the next test. On the other hand,
those who get comparatively good score would try to sustain their grades or rise
up to the first place. From my experience, I once had a rival in a school. He got
a better grade in mathematics test than me. Before the test, I thought he was
not too smart and would be not good at mathematics. However, after I got the lower score than him, I was disappointed and started to study earnestly to get
a better grade.
On top of that, the grades students get can motivate them to reflect their studying or learning less . By comparing the result of a
test with their friends’ grades or previous test results, it becomes stimulation
for them to looking back their efforts for the test and studying hard for the next
test. For example, I had studied only a few days for my Chinese character test.
Despite my poor ability, I did not study hard and relied on the short-term
memory. As a result, I got a C grade and was shocked because I thought I would
get a high score as the previous test. Since then, I studied hard and could get a high grade at the following test.
To sum up, I think grading encourages students
to learn because they tend to study more to compete and look back their attitudes toward the tests. In this regard, grading system should be activated
in all schools. |
