Tomas Edison once stated, ‘A genius is consisted of 1% of inspiration and 99% of hard work.’ It would be ‘a person who succeed is consisted of 1% of luck and 99% of hard work’ to apply my thoughts about succeeding in Edison’s statement. I strongly believe that luck holds a very important part in getting successful achievements, and therefore, disagree with the quotation given.
First, we need luck to encounter turning points in our lives. Each and every one would have a turning point in their lives, and the turning point doesn’t come by putting much effort; it is followed by luck. For instance, let’s suppose that an infamous inventor suddenly came up with a marvelous idea one day, and invented something that is useful. His invention was advertised on the media and became widely known, and he gained lots of reputition. All of these sequences can be told as his life’s turning point, and required ‘a pinch of luck’. If he didn’t came up with a certain idea, if his item was just used by a few people, if he didn’t advertise his product on the mass media, he wouldn’t have become succeeded to that extent after all.
In addition, luck is required in every day of our lives, hence it is a part that we cannot ignore. There is a statement in Buddhism, ‘every relationship should be considered as precious, since they’re made from the smallest opportunity.’ Even simply encountering a certain person is thought as meaningful, since luck has to be followed when starting a relationship in this world, full of millions of people, and there would be ‘someone’ who would help us to the right way of succeeding among them, which also needs luck.
Luck is, in other words, an opportunity. We need luck in almost every part of our lives: from meeting certain people to encountering certain important situations. Luck is something we cannot control, but act as a crucial key. This is why I believe that success cannot be achieved only by putting efforts, but a bit of luck always added.
