Both reading and listening passage discuss same topic: video games (what of video game? Video game itself is a theme, not a
topic). However, their perspectives are very different. While the
written passage says that video games are harmful to the youth, the
professor casts doubts to the reading passage’s ideas.
Firstly, the reading passage suggests that video games are highly
addictive. Children who are addicted to video games show symptoms that could be
found in other forms of addictions. However, the lecturer does not agree to
(with) this point. The professor says that every kind of pleasurable activities(y) have (has) addictive
tastes (characteristic).
According to a recent study, children tend to watch more hours of TV than they
would enjoy playing video games. This shows that video games are not the one to
blame but children demonstrate these kinds of
addictions to unrelated aspects of their lives too.
Secondly, the author of the reading passage argues that violent
video games cause the children’s aggressive acts (behavior) such as youth crime. He describes that violence shown in
the video games leads children to criminal acts.
However, the lecturer points out that this is not the case that applies every
time. It is just few cases that led to children’s violent behaviors. According
to the lecture, the youth crime rate has been the lowest since the video games
were out. If video games stimulate and encourage children to act aggressively,
the youth crime rate should have increased. He suggest(s)
that video games are not leading children to violence but it is acting as a
safety barrier.
Lastly, according to the reading passage, video games are not
performing or providing any goods to the children. More and more
students are spending their leisure time playing video games, while they can do
something more productive in that time. However, the professor maintains that
video games, in fact, have positive effects. Video games are closely related to
the improving people’s intelligence. He points out that video games allow
people to solve questions, multi-task and make fast decisions. Not only that
but also they increase the reaction time and special skills of the players. He
strongly believes that video games are as productive and beneficial as learning
new knowledge.
(Not flawless but very
well written with solid delivery. Nice work.)
