Some people may think that watching television gives more lesson for people than reading books does. However, I firmly believe that people can learn more by reading books rather than by watching television. This is because books are archaive of experience and knowledge and also helps people to think creatively.
First of all, people can learn a vast amount of knowledge and experience in books. Books contain not only information but also experiences of authors. Reading books thus helps people to absorb author's experience as well as knowledge. For example, when one wants to learn about Chinese history, reading books will be very helpful. There are many Chinese history books written by numerous authors with different historical background, stance and experience. To illustrate, one can read a book written by European merchants traveling Mongolian states and think about the passions and curiosities of those merchants. One can also read a history book written by famous military strategist Sonju and feel the atmospere of ancient China under great turmoil. As is shows, books provide enormous experience and knowledge which we cannot find in television programs.
In addition, books enable people to think critically. Readers constantly question themselves when they read books and try to find their own answers. Reading books are not only an act of accepting information but also a phrase of learning. On the other hand, televisions just offer informtaion to its watchers. Television watchers do not have time or motive to ask questions and think critically when they watch TVs. They just consume what they watch but do not learn it creatively. For instance, when I was young, I watched television a lot and often thought that I was learning something in television programs. However, when I entered the university and forced to read many books in classes, I realized that I never thought critically whenever I watch television. I just accepted what TV programs were saying without hesitation. However, reading books encouraged me to question and think about what authors are saying. 'Am I agree with the author?' Through my own experience, I think that reading books make readers to think more critically while television never does.
To summarize, I insist that people learn more in books than in television; Books contain enormous amounts of knowledge and exprience of authors and encourage readers to think critically.
