▶ Your Answer :
It this globalized society, it is debatable whether all university
students have to be required to take at least one class that teaches the
culture of a country other than their own. I agree with above statements for
two reasons. First, Understanding other cultures can help to international cooperation.
And second, learning other cultures can help to understand our own culture
better.
To begin with, students can contribute to international cooperation.
This is because students have the capability to have more understanding other
cultures by learning about it. This means that classes which teach the culture
of a country other can help to understand other country and other culture more.
Thus students can contribute to international cooperation. According to the
research, many people think that exposure to other cultures increases tolerance
and are essential to world peace. People believe that understanding each other
enhances relationship between others.
On top of that students can understand our own cultures better. This is
due to the fact that students can compare own culture and other culture, and
think critically about own culture. This means that students have a chance to
compare their own culture form others by study other own cultures. Therefore,
students can have a more knowledge about not only other cultures but also their
own culture. Coming from my personal experience, taking Japanese history class
helped me understand Korean culture more fully. Japan and Korea have a long historical
linkage and this historical influence gave an important change to each other.
Thus, I have more deep understanding about our culture and history by taking a
Japanese history class.
To sum up, understanding other country by study other cultures is able
to help contribute to international cooperation and moreover taking other
country’s culture class can give a change to have more understanding their own country
and culture. Considering above two reasons it is evident that taking at least
on class that teaches other culture is necessity to all university students.
