An intriguing topic of discussion at hand is whether people who have learned many different skills are more likely to succeed than those who focus on learning only one skill. The answer to this question can vary greatly, depending on the individual perspectives. Thus, the jury may still be out, but as far as I am concerned I agree with the statement. In this essay, I will present two reasons supporting my standpoint as follows.
First of all, learning many various skills can encourage people to work in more passion. This is attributed to the fact that it can serve as one of the key motivators for them to perform better and to improve themselves. With such motivations, they will put in more effort, concentrate better on their tasks, and feel a stronger sense of responsibility for their work. According to a research conducted by the Ministry of Labor, there was a huge difference between two groups of employees in related to their rates of achievement. Employees in group A who have learned various skills and those in group B did not. The researchers showed that the former group spent 25% more number of hours on working and performed higher than the latter group. In particular, employees in group A followed instructions, submitted assignments on time, and participated actively in group meetings. On the other hand, those in group B dozed off in office and lacked focus while working. It can be inferred that learning a number of various skills has a direct correlation with the amount of effort and energy that employees invest in working.
Second, learning many types of useful skills allows people to broaden their horizon, and it can be method of success. When people get a skill like foreign language and exotic technology, They may go through trial and error, and this can expose them to different worlds of lifestyles, basic customs, and cultures. Through this experience, they can learn to embrace diversity. For example, when I had a internship, there was no person who can speak chinese. So, when a chinese buyer came to office, other employees kept their distances from buyer. On the other hand, being educated on chinese and chinese culture through Chinese class, I perfectly received them. Thanks to this, my boss gave bonus money to me.
In conclusion, I strongly argue for my standpoint on account of the two reasons mentioned above. Once again, although the verdict may still be out, I personally believe that two of my rationales above are sufficiently convincing enough to represent the viewpoints of a majority of people who are in favor of my claim. |
