There may be pros and cons regarding the argument that advertising is main cause of unhealthy eating habits. I am in complete disagreement with this argument. In this paper, I elaborate on the two strong reasons for my position.
First of all, advertising is beneficial to our healthy diet. This is because we can be well-balanced about food and change our diet healthier through advertisements. While we grow up, we are exposed to certain types of information and knowledge about food, through education at school as well as at home. The problem with this is that most of the information and knowledge is conveyed from one source’s particular viewpoint. Given this context, in order to be well-informed, we need to learn about diverse knowledge of food by watching advertising. In my case, I had been thought that eating meat as possible as I can is a good diet because meat contain large amounts of protein. I believed these diet made me a muscular and healthy man. However, last month, my perspective on eating habits could not be solely positive. This is because I saw an advertisement explaining that we can suffer from many disease and lack of essential nutrients only if we enjoy meat-oriented diet. After that, I started to enjoy vegetarian diet for my healthy life. Without the help of advertisements, I might have held a slanted view of eating habits.
Moreover, advertisements have a positive effects on our healthy eating habits. This is attributed to the fact that we can get the latest knowledge of eating via advertisements, and thus have healthy diet. Our world is evolving at a surprising speed. As a result, we may have difficulty understanding all of the changes about food knowledge all around world. Given this, it is important that we try to keep current by learning about healthy food via advertising. In a recent survey carried out by Harvard University, nearly two-thirds of the respondents said that they could update their knowledge of eating habits and have healthier diets through the information of advertisements. According to the respondents, advertising of food prevented them from being confined to unhealthy diets. It is no surprise that there has recently been a drastic increase in the number of people who watch advertisements of food to gain knowledge of the healthy eating habits.
Because of the reasons explained above, I strongly maintain that advertising greatly result in people’s healthy eating diets. |
