▶ Your Answer : It is often said that television and movies has a number of negative effects on young people. I am certainly sure that it cannot help but to be true as long as it force them to be exposed to violence and be affected negatively on health. To begin with, television introduces and stimulates violence. This is attributed to the fact that TV programs tend to display many stimulating contents, such as exaggerated actions, sexuality, and vulgar language. Such contents are easily imitated by people who lack a sense of judgement and morality when they are continually exposed to them. For example, Kim Jun, one of my classmates in elementary school, used to be calm and peaceful. He has changed little by little after he started watching TV all day long, ranging from movies to advertisement because both of his parents were busy with work and used a TV as a babysitter for him. One day, he saw a TV commercial, describing a toy gun as a fun way to play with other kids by shooting each other. He realized that it looked like fun and cool to commit such actions. Naturally, he ended up hurting his friend, not feeling guilty. If it were not for TV, he would never have been exposed to such violent actions and copied. This instance shows straightforwardly that TV has more negative impacts than positive ones. In addition, watching TV for a long time can play a significant role in damaging health condition. This is due to the fact that while watching TV, people usually sit on one place for a long period without changing their posture and position. This tendency can negatively affect primarily on students' back bone. According to a study conducted by University of California at Los Angeles of the United States in 2008, the degree of spinal curvature increased proportionally to the amount of time they spent watching TV or movies. Morever, as a result of malformation, their respiratory function was also compromised seriously on account of pressure exerted by 'S' thoracic vertebra. This implies that spending much time on TV or movies can contribute to exacerbating health condition especially in musculoskeletal system. In brief, as I explained above, television has various negative influences on people. It can be deleterious to people's health and human nature. Consequently, I surely recommend that people's lives not be dependent on TV or movies to a degree where their health and characteristic are severely aggravated. |
