▶ Your Answer :
In today`s society,
it is widely believed that grades have negative impact on learning. Some people advocate that, however, I disagree
with this view. I firmly believe grades encourage students to learn. This is
because first, it fosters an atmosphere of competition in class, second it
forces students to study all of their subjects even if some subjects are not
interesting to them.
First of all, grades
system in school plays important role in prompting student`s grades
efficiently. To be more specific, In such a system, it is likely to fosters an
atmosphere of competition in class because students tend to feel a sense of
rivalry when they have lower grades compared to the others in class, and this a
sense of competition allows them to focus better on learning, consequently the
average grade in class can be increased greatly. According to study done by
Korea Education Research in 2013, the study was conducted in two schools. “A” school
enforced grade system in an attempt to induce an atmosphere of competition. “B”
school, on the other hand, thought that grade system could make students under
a lot of pressure and it caused negative effect on student`s grade. However,
students at the latter school began to lose interest in learning, consequently
the score on the college entrance exam for them was much lower than students at
“A” school. Through this experience, it is very clear that grade system have positive
impact on student`s grade.
Second, grades system can make students to learn
certain subjects that they have not been interested in. To be specific,
students are likely to spend less time studying some subjects that are not
interesting to them if these subjects are not involved with their grades.
However, grades system forces students to learn these subjects even though they
don`t have any interest in that subjects and it will be definitely helpful for
them some day. For example, when I was in college, a chemical subject was a one
of the required subject in my university. Unfortunately, it was so difficult
for me that I lost any interest in studying that subject. But, I had to learn
it because I wanted to get scholarship. As a result, I was able to have a
little knowledge in the field of chemical engineering and it was really helpful
when I went for job interview in chemical corporations. Through this experience,
it is very clear that grades system is indispensable to student.
All things
considered, it is my belief that my argument regarding this topic has been
effectively and precisely delivered with the reasons mentioned above. Never should
we forget.
