It is true that, advent of telephone, it has resulted in significant improvement of human lives. Nevertheless, in my opinion, in modern society, TV has greater impact on enhancing the quality of human lives. It is because it played larger role not only in conveying news precisely and rapidly, but also in making huge economic effects.
First of all, television broadcast system is capable of updating people with more reliable facts than telephone can do. In order to provide accurate details, TV can report news in realtime, with video and audio effects, simultaneously, when an accident occurs. Compared with it, the information conveyed over telephone is limited and it can not deliver the scene of accident vividly, as much as TV can do. For example, two month ago, in south sea of Korea, the ferry with more than 300 passengers sank. At first, police delivered news over phone that all the passengers were rescued. However, after TV broadcasting team arrived, the truth was revealed that only a third of passengers were survived. In this case, TV news is more credible to release the fact.
In addition, the television industry has stimulated many economies and businesses. To be specific, the industry has created a wide range of industries engaged in (involved in) the TV broadcasting and from advertising industry, directing TV programs, to export the right for broadcasting. Furthermore, it also has produced tremendous amount of wealth in the communication field. Here we have several examples to see the effect of TV in economy at a glance. Have you ever heard that how much companies pay for the price for TV advertisement at super bowl? It is no less than 150 thousands dollars per second. Can you imagine that you pay more than 450 thousands dollars only for 30 seconds? In another example, NBC bought the right for broadcasting 2012 London olympic at more than a billion dollars. I think that this size of huge economic effects has never accomplished by telephone.
In summary, the television are likely to provide more credible news, and it also has had greater influence on the economy and business, yielding a variety of industries, jobs, and even huge amount of money. For these reasons, I believe that television has proven to be much more significant to society that the telephone.
