There may be pros and cons regarding the argument that telephones and email have made communication between people less personal. I am in complete disagreement with this argument. In this paper, I elaborate on the two strong reasons for my position.
First of all, we can be a closer to other people through telephones and email. Sharing their stories via phones is actually entertaining, and, therefore, makes us laugh and fills us with happiness and joy. Today’s society moves and changes at a very fast pace, so we are driven by hectic lifestyles. As a result, we often feel gloomy and drained because our lives are occupied by increasing amounts of work. Many of us, therefore, relieve some of our stress by doing fun activities such as enjoying talk with our families or friends over phones. In this context, telephones and email can help people to get closer to each other. My personal experience is a prime example. On a day-to-day basis, I bury myself in work, and I am occupied with work-related matters throughout the day. Even worse, I am eager to be on good terms with my supervisors and co-workers, which makes me utterly exhausted by the smallest things. I then have a talk with a my friend by using cell phone for a while to reduce my anxiety. To my surprise, even for a brief period of time, I can unwind and successfully escape from my stressful daily routine. Furthermore, I feel galvanized and closeness to a my friend.
Moreover, having a communication via telephones helps people to develop solid relationships with others. In today’s rat-race society, we feel pressured to beat the competition and thus spend more and more hours on work. As a result, we are hard-pressed on time and thus become alienated from our families and friends. However, spending time on talking with friends over phones and sharing happy moments can help us restore relationships. In this context, the value of communication through telephones cannot be overlooked. According to a recent CNN daily podcast (2013), four-fifths of the respondents said that they could rebuild their ties with their families and friends by having a frequent talk with them over phones. The respondents argued that with the help of phones, they could interact with others frequently and develop close bonds, which increases emotional attachments.
Because of the reasons explained above, I strongly maintain that the value of telephones and emails should be recommended within the unique context of today’s society. / I strongly maintain that telephones and emails make our communication with others closer.
