For students to learn something, there are a lot of ways of studying or learning new materials. Some students prefer to study alone and revise for themselves. It can give them more private time to study in their pace. However, I believe that studying with their friends can help you more academically. The rationale behind this is that group studying make better atmosphere for studying. In addition, students can share their personal ideas or information they have.
To begin with, studying with other people makes an atmosphere or environment for them to focus on their study. Sometimes, it is hard to study alone because you can get easily bored or not motivated to do the work at all. If a student is working alone on one subject, the student might concentrate more for a short amount of time but in the long run, that student get tired easily. While in group study, there are your friends next to you studying so you feel compelled to study perhaps create a nice rivialary between friends. For instance, I studied with few of my friends for the final exams because there were lots of materials to study. As it was group study, I feeled kind of motivated to do more because I wanted to do better work than my friends. As a result, I got better result on my finals and all of my friends also got better results. Likewise, group studying makes a positive atmosphere for students who wants to study.
On top of that, group study can share personal notes or information while studying. It allows sharing of ideas and information so that students will have more to work with each other. As more information is shared, they can catch up with the teacher's saying and the notes they took in classes. More importantly, they can ask each other questions and think of the questions together. Sometimes students can explain better than a teacher because they know it is not easy to understand so they explain them in a way that students will understand. To give a personal example, when I was in my physics class, the concept was vague and incomprehensible for me and even if I asked my teacher, he just repeted the same thing. Frustrated, I asked my friend about that theory and she explained it in easy drawings so it was more convienient to understand. In short, group study is a bowl of information and a good teacher.
In conclusion, group studying can create a better atmosphere for the students and more information can be shared. That is why I believe that group studying is better for students who want motivation and support from others. |
