▶ Your Answer : Some people think that television and movies have more negative effects than positive effects on children’s behavior. However, in my opinion, media like television and movies give good impact for two reasons. First children can see different perspectives by watching them. Second, they can teach children important values. To begin with, children can have broaden perspectives. In television and movies, there are a lot of programs about traveling, education, comedy and many other things. So through movies, children can see all kinds of people in various situation. For example, when I was child, I had a stereotype about a job that requires service. But after watching a job documentary program of someone who earn much money, I realized that working on service industries is also one way to success. This shows that watching tv is helpful to broaden someone’s horizons of the world. One the top of that, they can give children pivotal values. Children have no knowledge of what is right or wrong. So it is important to teach values that the social requires to children. TV and movies can do it easily because children are positively influenced by characters in TV programs. For instance, a study conducted by a group of children education majors is good example of this. The researchers tracked 200 children over a 15-year period in order to find out how child tv programs impacts children. What they found was intriguing. Those who watched child tv programs when they are 5-8 has lower crime rate than those who didn’t. The findings showed that children can get some precious values from media. To sum up, media would produce positive results, such as diminishing a stereotype and teaching some precious values. In this regard, I believe tv and movies has more positive effects that negative effects for the reasons I mentioned above. |
