Those who believe that students must study
all the time may believe that students should take classes for over 11 months. However,
I think that it is better to give students some time to relax and do other
activities than taking classes throughout the entire year. There are two major
reasons why: Taking a break is important, and we should respect students’
diversity.
First
of all, studying and working hard is of course very important but taking a
break is just as important. Time is not the only essential factor in studying
well; efficiency in studying is also very crucial. If students have to take
classes for more than 11 months, there would be practically no time to relax
and let their bodies and minds rest. Not only does this reduce efficiency, but
also can threaten the students’ health. For instance, I once studied all night
without giving myself a break one day before the test. I was in a bad condition
the next day and didn’t get a good score. So afterwards, I started to let my
body rest occasionally even right before the test. This eventually helped me
raise my test scores.
Next,
not all students should be required to study. Of course, every student should
know the basic knowledge but we should also respect those who want to choose
different paths, such as sports players or entertainers. Every student should
be given a chance to experience various activities and see which fits them the
most. Then, if they find great talent for something other than studying, those
students should be encouraged to focus more on developing such talents. For example,
famous sports stars and celebrities that we admire practiced their own fields
very hard from a young age. Therefore, in order to maintain a culturally
diverse and advanced society, we should respect every student’s own talent and
skills, not make them sit in the classroom the entire year.
In
conclusion, it is a more wise choice to make students take classes for less
than 11 months a year. Letting the students’ tired bodies relax from time to
time is crucial, and those who have talents for other fields must be respected.
Students are not studying machines.
