As the private academies are increasing, people often debate whether or not the quality of pubic education benefits from private academies. In my opinion, private academies play an important role in improving the quality of public education for two reasons: they compensate the lack points of public educaion and they stimulate the advance of public education.
To begin with, private academies serve as a complement to public education. This is due to the fact that public education covers many kinds of subjects and one cannot concentrate only few subjects at school whereas one can study one’s favorite subject further at a private academy. Let me take my own experience as an example. When I was a high school student, my favorite subject was mathematics. However, it was hard for me to study high-level mathematics at school because I had to attend lots of other classes such as literature, sience, and history. In contrast, I was able to take lessons only about solving very hard but interesting math problems at a private academy after shool. In other words, I learned general knowledge about many fields at school and specific knowledge about math at private school. So public education and private academies are complementary to each other.
On top of that, private academies incite public education to advance. This is because the competition between private academies are so severe that they are eager to develope efficient teaching methods which are adapted by public shools. According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2013, about 80% of public school teachers have experience of refering to the popular lecturers of private academies. Surprisingly, the researchers shows that most of those teachers think it is very helpful to find a more adequate method to teach students. Therefore, public education can find a good idea from private academies to improve its quality.
To sum up, private academies play a complementary role to public education and stimulate the public education to develope. In this regard, I think private academies contribute to raising the quality of public education. All in all, the importance of private academies should not be underestimated in that it can kill two birds with one stone.
